Manhattan Giant Pizza has a name that is well fitting. The giant pizza is ginormous. At 28” it often takes two people to carry it out and it barely fits through the doorway. So here are a couple tips. In the case of a fire drop the pizza and run. In the case of an earthquake, stop, drop the pizza and roll. In the case of…Okay that’s enough of that. The point is the pizza is giant (and by far the biggest pizzas we’ve seen to date). The individual pizza slices come from a giant size pizza making them HUGE!
Manhattan Giant Pizza is located on West D Street (between S. Coast Hwy 101 and 2nd St.) in the city of Encinitas in North County San Diego. The establishment had an unassuming location off S. Coast Hwy 101 (where the majority of restaurants were). Parking consisted mostly of parking on the street so there can be a small walk during peak hours. It’s a wonderful area to walk around as the Encinitas area was beautiful with a beach city vibe to it that had some resemblances of downtown La Jolla. The atmosphere at Manhattan Giant Pizza was very relaxed, casual and the service was fast and friendly. Upon arriving we looked over a menu to decide what to order.
We ordered a medium 14” “New Yorker” Pizza ($15.99) and a slice of pepperoni ($3.45). Toppings on the slices are $0.60 for regular toppings and $1.00 for gourmet toppings.
The “New Yorker” Pizza was delicious. It came with pepperoni, sausage, mushroom, black olives, mozzarella, cheese and tomato sauce. It came out hot, fresh and served on a metal pizza tray. While the crust was just slightly thicker than some of the thin New York style crusts we’ve had it was good and had a nice light crisp on the outside.
The slice of pepperoni was gigantic. It was about twice the size of a medium slice and so big only about half it fit on the plate. The slices come from a giant 28” pizza cooked then reheated with the toppings of choice. The consistency of the crust was excellent, cooked all the way through with a nice light crisp to it.
Overall we enjoyed our experience at Manhattan Giant Pizza in Encinitas. The staff was friendly and the establishment was obviously a hit with the locals. The 28” giant pizzas were popular and also added a level of fun and entertainment to pizza dining. The large pizzas by the slice were also very popular with patrons. If you’re in the Encinitas area stop by Manhattan Giant Pizza – The pizza is delicious and the giant 28” pizza and huge pizza by the size slices are one-of-a-kind!
