After suffering through the negative press of the past week, from a bloggers fabricated story picked up by Yahoo News, Fox News, CNN, the Huffington Post and more, one restaurant is getting some much needed love from food guru and founder of FoodSmackdown.com Steve Carlson.
True Food Kitchen in Newport Beach, California was recently swept up in a hoax suspected to incite class warfare between the 1% and 99%. In this story a wealthy banker supposedly insulated the waitress and failed to provide an adequate tip, giving only 1% and writing on the receipt, “Get a real job!” Despite the fact that the news story was proven a hoax, True Food Kitchen was still swept into the controversy, pressured to set the record straight by producing the actual receipt and providing a statement.
Being hip to the fluctuations of the food world, Carlson decided to give True Food Kitchen a shot and see if it lived up to his website’s popular E.A.T.S.(Economics, Atmosphere, Taste, and Service) rating system. And that it did!
True Food Kitchen is known for their globally inspired cuisine, and has grown its menu around recipes that create a balanced diet with a decadent taste. The restaurant is reasonably priced considering their use of fresh ingredients and extensive list of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free offerings. When customers walk into the posh building they are greeted by a clean and bright dining area with a modern look and feel. It’s the perfect atmosphere to grab a bite in while catching up with old friends or to escape the gloom of the office.
Soon after arriving, Carlson was seated by a cheerful and sociable server who really knew her stuff. After grilling her about the menu, he ordered the Turkey Burger which exceeded his expectations. The delicious burger came topped with perfectly melted provolone cheese, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato, and mouthwatering avocado on a flax seed bun.
After all was said and eaten, Carlson tipped a generous 110% to let his server and the restaurant know they should keep up the good work. “If we encourage everyone to give 110% in everything they do, whether they’re working or looking for work, a banker or a server, or a patron or an employee, we can create a better world,” explains Steve. With this kind of pay-it-forward mentality maybe folks will stop looking for things to gripe about and start enjoying their food.
