With plenty of stand-out reviews and hype about Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria in Solana Beach having some of the best New York style pizza in town we had to pay this place a visit. The buffalo garlic chicken pizza was amazing and one of the best pizza slices in San Diego we’ve had to date!

Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria is located off the 5 freeway on Stevens Avenue just south of the Solana Beach Town Center Shopping Center. Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria is easy to pass up (especially if you’re heading South on Stevens Avenue) if you’re not looking for it (it’s tucked into a small strip mall with just a few businesses with not much else around it). The atmosphere was fun, energetic and the workers were friendly. The inside décor consisted of several New York themed pictures, some celebrity photos (looks like Derek Jeter came here), black and white checkered floors and a nice glass case displaying the delicious pizza slices.

With so many good looking pizzas on display we had a hard time choosing which slices to try. With a little help from one of the workers (he insisted the buffalo garlic chicken was a must try) we ordered two slices of pizza ($6.00 total) – a slice of the “Rosso” pepperoni and ricotta cheese pizza ($3.00) and a slice of the recommended “Buffalo” garlic chicken pizza ($3.00). Both pizza slices had a light fresh garlic sauce on it (“White Pie”) and both were very good.

The Buffalo garlic chicken pizza came with mozzarella, fresh garlic sauce and parmigiana, tasty garlic chicken, wing sauce and upon serving was topped with ranch dressing. If you like Buffalo wings dipped in ranch (and we do) you’ll love this pizza. It was one of the best pizza slices we’ve had to date! The New York style thin crust it came on was excellent and had a perfect light crisp to it.

The “Rosso” (pepperoni and ricotta cheese) pizza slice was also very good. It was also a “White Pie” and came with fresh garlic sauce and parmigiana, mozzarella, pepperoni’s and some delicious chunks of ricotta cheese. Both slices of pizza were delicious and the New York style thin crust was cooked to perfection.

Overall Bongiorno’s New York Pizzeria in Solana Beach had good service, a fun and casual atmosphere and the pizza slices were fresh and delicious. The “Buffalo” garlic chicken pizza was one of our favorites to date and a must try! We can see why this place is a local favorite and hyped as the best New York style pizza in town!
